Dry season (December to March): the classic Maldives

If you want the most reliable sunshine and that postcard-perfect “glass lagoon” feel, this is your window. It’s also peak demandso it’s the time to book early, especially for the best villas and the best flight routes.

  • Best for: honeymoons, first-timers, guaranteed sun seekers
  • Expect: higher prices, fuller resorts, best villa choice when booked early
  • Tip: Christmas and New Year can sell out far in advance

Shoulder season (late November & April): smart luxury value

Shoulder season is often the sweet spot: beautiful weather, calmer booking pressure, and more opportunities for added-value inclusions. If you love the idea of premium resorts but want to be clever with timing, this is the season I look at first.

  • Best for: couples who want luxury with smart value
  • Expect: excellent conditions with a touch more flexibility
  • Tip: ideal for longer stays and villa upgrades

Wet season (May to October): warm, flexible, and often brilliant for divers

“Wet season” doesn’t mean constant rainit usually means short, tropical downpours and more wind on some days. If you’re flexible and want more space, more availability, and often better value, this can be a fantastic time to go.

  • Best for: divers, longer stays, flexible travellers
  • Expect: more offers, more upgrade opportunities, fewer crowds
  • Tip: we can choose atolls and resort locations that suit the conditions you prefer

FAQs

Is the Maldives worth it in the wet season?

Yes. You’ll still get warm temperatures and plenty of sunshine between showers. If you’re flexible and want more space (and often better value), May–October can be a brilliant time to go—especially for longer stays and diving-focused trips.

When is the cheapest time to go?

Typically May–October is lower demand, so you may see better rates, upgrades, and added-value inclusions. Exact pricing depends on resort, room type, and flight availability.

Which month is best for a honeymoon?

December to March is the classic honeymoon window for the most reliable weather. If you want a similar feel with a little more value, late November or April can be perfect.

How far ahead should I book?

For peak dates (Christmas, New Year, February half-term, Easter), I recommend 9–12 months ahead. For shoulder season, 4–8 months is usually comfortable. For wet season, there’s often more flexibility.
